Signs of the Times

We all remember when times (economic) were much better. Many years ago I lived in east Dearborn, MI. I would go to west Dearborn to shop or dine at a number of stores and restaurants.

A few days ago I took on the project of viewing west Dearborn for about 30 minutes to photograph the ‘Signs of the Times’ with the For Lease signs as my subject. Here is what I found in a 5 or 6 block area of this fine city.

Click ‘View Full Album’ to see what I saw.

I am sure some cities will have fewer closed business, but I suspect that many parts of the country will be very similar.

I will try to have a more up beat theme next time.

Use the links above to find out more about Corktown. I have photographed the area before, but not the homes. Here are a few of the homes that caught me attention.

Who has lived here over the years?

This home is similar to the first photo, but no brick.

Were the two on the left built at the same time?

Could you believe it was about 50 degrees in mid February?

Enjoy these shots.

Another COLD day and apples are the theme

The ground hog has been here and I watched Groundhog Day to celebrate. I can’t say that the ground hog myth has much proof, but the movie is a classic play it again and again.

I thought that I would photo some apples that have been in a bowl for about 3 weeks. I did pitch one that was rotten, but the rest of the apples seem to be dehydrating naturally.

Here they are in all their glory.

All photos taken with Canon 40D and Sigma 50-150 2.8 lens. I used two Canon 580 flashes. Post processing done with Adobe Lightroom 2.3.

As soon as the weather breaks, I’m out of here to capture the great outdoors.
